HR Projects
Experienced HR support to lead a defined project from start to finish.
You need to review salaries, improve how performance is managed, or work through an employee’s upcoming parental leave. You may also suspect that your HR practices need attention without knowing where the gaps are.
Peale Piper helps small businesses and nonprofits assess what needs to change and complete the work, with experienced HR support throughout the project.
Culture and values
We work with you to define or clarify your organization’s values and put them into practice. We help translate those values into operating principles, competencies, or shared language that guides how your team works, makes decisions, and manages employees.
HR audits
You don’t have to know you need an audit before you call. If you’re concerned about how HR is being handled, we can help determine whether an assessment of your function is the right place to start. We examine existing practices and documentation, identify gaps, and review our findings and recommendations with you.
Workplace investigations
We can support with fact-finding when an employee concern or allegation needs investigation. The work can include interviews, document review, written findings and recommendations, and a discussion of the findings with the organization’s leadership.
Other HR program improvements
We can review any HR program that isn’t working as intended and improve how it operates. For example, an onboarding project can address what happens before a new hire starts, who is responsible for orientation and training, and what support follows.
Compensation and job structure
Whether you’re interested in salary benchmarking, pay ranges, job levels, and clearer job descriptions, we can help. The work can address a particular role or a broader need to make consistent decisions about pay and responsibilities across the organization.
Performance management
Develop or improve the way you set expectations, review performance, and give employees feedback. Projects can include evaluation processes, goal-setting tools, and guidance for the managers or board members responsible for using them.
Parental leave
Peale Piper supports organizations with programs to support employees taking leave or the development of a parental leave program. Depending on the project, this can include evaluating leave options, developing a policy and request process, and supporting the employee through the leave.
Handbook and policies
We can create or update an employee handbook by reviewing your existing policies, identify gaps, and develop clear language that helps employees understand what to expect and gives managers a consistent reference.
How we work together
We start by talking through the situation and outlining the work needed. You’ll receive a proposal with the scope and project price before deciding whether to move forward.
Once the proposal is agreed, we gather the information relevant to the assignment and speak with the leaders or staff involved. For an audit or program improvement, that means understanding what you have today, what is working, and what needs attention. For compensation work, it includes reviewing the roles and existing pay practices.
We develop the analysis, draft materials, or recommendations called for in the project and review them with you. Your organization’s context and your feedback help shape the work.
Depending on the project, our work may include developing tools or policies, supporting implementation, or helping your team put the recommendations into practice.
Examples of our work
A comprehensive HR audit
A manufacturer’s new Controller suspected gaps in its HR practices but needed a clearer picture. Our audit identified legal and operational deficiencies, including federal subcontractor obligations the organization hadn’t recognized. We provided findings and recommended actions, then continued working with the client to implement improvements and standardize processes across its five locations.
Workplace improvement
Employees at a small organization raised concerns about the culture and leadership behavior. Through surveys, focus groups, and individual interviews, we examined their experiences and completed a culture audit with recommendations for addressing the findings. The organization followed through with coaching for the leader and changes to workplace practices.
Let’s talk about what needs attention.
You may have a specific project in mind or need help figuring out where to start. On our first call, we’ll discuss what’s happening, what kind of support would be useful, and whether Peale Piper is the right fit.
